In the Arms of Our Lord

What a temptation it is sometimes for women to leave their husbands when they are abusive or licentious, or both!  But Krsna is not pleased when we forsake our husbands.  Srimati Kausalya devi was starved for affection. Of course, her husband, Maharaja Dasaratha, was not abusive or licentious, but he doted on Kaikeyi, Kausalya's youngest co-wife, at the expense of his other queens.  Nonetheless, Sri Rama told his mother that she should not leave her husband, and that she should go on serving him as long as she lives.

Of course, Srila Prabhupada said that a woman is not required to stay with a husband who is fallen, but so often we see that when a woman leaves her marriage, she nonetheless ends up hankering for the intimate association of a man, so she is tempted to indulge in a relationship with a man who is not her lawfully wedded husband, and that can lead to nothing but trouble.

Better to stay where we are, go on remembering our Lord and serving our husbands and children, and tolerating whatever sufferings come our way.  If we continue to please Krsna in this way, we will end up back in the arms of our Lord, who is the reservoir of all good qualities and who will never abuse us or forsake us.

After all, isn't human life meant for sacrifice, anyway?  That's the only way to true happiness.
